Sonu Nigam's iconic song "Bijuria," originally released in 1999 as part of his album "Mausam," continues to resonate with audiences, even after 26 years. The song, composed by Ravi Pawar and written by Ajay Jhingran, quickly became a crowd favorite and a defining track in Nigam's career.

Nigam has expressed surprise at the song's enduring popularity. Speaking on the song's 25th anniversary, the Padma Shri awardee told Hindustan Times, "It has been a part of my life since 1999 and I perform it at 99.9% of my shows". He recounted a recent performance in Phuket where "the crowd went crazy". He added, "Its energy is unparalleled".

The creation of "Bijuriya" was quite spontaneous. Nigam, Pawar, and Jhingran were brainstorming at Pawar's home when Nigam suggested playful words like "bijuriya," "dagariya," "gujariya," and "sawariya," a departure from the popular "jalwa" songs of the time. This playful moment sparked the creation of a timeless track. To enhance the song's sound, accomplished musicians like percussionist Sivamani, saxophonist Shyam Raj, and guitarist Rupert Fernandes were brought on board. Nigam also fondly remembers Saroj Khan's choreography for the song, saying, "I told her to choreograph for me as if it were Govinda". He added, "She understood my eagerness to dance, and today people still expect that step every time I perform".

Now, "Bijuriya" has been revived in a fresh, upbeat version for the film "Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari". The reprised track retains Nigam's vocals and features Asees Kaur, with Tanishk Bagchi as the composer. The song features Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, whose chemistry has been well-received.

Nigam shared his thoughts on singing the remake of "Bijuria," stating that remakes, "if done with respect and regard to the original creators, are not a bad thing at all". He acknowledged that sometimes remakes can spoil a song but that they can also "bring old melodies back and create nostalgia for people who grew up with them".

Social media reactions to the new version of "Bijuria" have been positive. One user commented, "SONU NIGAM 'S voice, VARUN DHAWAN 'S energy, JANHVI'S charm, what else do we need”. The success of the track demonstrates that iconic voices never go out of style. The nostalgia evoked by Sonu's "Bijuriya," combined with a new-age twist, ensures its magic lives on for a new generation.

Nigam reflected on the song's journey, "When we first recorded it, I had no idea it would be so loved and would last so long, evergreen, as if eternal". He added, "Revisiting it now decades later feels like a full-circle moment". Originally, "Bijuria" was a deliberate attempt at pure pop, with Nigam having the freedom to choose what he wanted to sing. He noted, "We weren't thinking of movies at all—it was a pop project. And now, after 26 years, it's finding its way into a film. It is an incredible thing, really".
