Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has been actively touring flood-affected areas along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, extending support and assessing the damage caused by recent floods. His visits encompassed the Kathua and Samba districts, where he distributed relief materials and reassured residents of the government's commitment to rehabilitation.

During his visits, Singh engaged with flood victims in villages such as Paharpur in Kathua, and at border outposts including Ramgarh, Tanwar, and Kamore in Kathua and Samba. He evaluated the extent of crop and property damage, directing the district administration to expedite damage assessments to ensure timely compensation for those affected. Singh also inspected affected areas in Bajalta and Pargalta panchayats of Jammu district, accompanied by local MLA Yudhvir Sethi and administration officials.

A key focus of Singh's visits was ensuring access to safe drinking water and preventing waterborne diseases in the flood-affected areas. He introduced a nano-technology-based water filter plant, developed by CSIR IIM Jammu, costing Rs 50 lakh. This technology, he stated, would be deployed in the affected villages to provide safe water to the villagers. He also handed over mobile and domestic water-purifying units to the district administration for installation in the affected areas. The domestic units are designed for household use and do not require electricity, while the mobile unit can purify 3,000-4,000 litres per hour from any source, running on vehicle power.

Singh praised the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel for their crucial role in rescue and relief operations, noting they reached victims even before the local administration. He also highlighted the government's commitment to building a multi-purpose dam on the Ujh river.

In addition to immediate relief, Singh addressed the long-term rebuilding efforts. He stated that damaged structures would be rebuilt with improved specifications to better withstand future calamities. Singh also addressed concerns regarding a boundary wall being constructed by the railways that was obstructing access to some houses in Bajalta, assuring that the matter would be addressed.

Singh has been actively visiting flood-affected areas within his parliamentary constituency of Udhampur and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, spanning from Chisoti in Kishtwar to the Indo-Pak border. He has also reviewed the restoration work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which had been closed for over 10 days due to landslides. Singh reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the situation and relief efforts in the flood-ravaged areas.
