The Allahabad High Court has directed the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and the Uttar Pradesh government to file their replies by October 30, 2025, regarding a plea challenging the sealing of Sahara Shahar. The plea was filed by Sahara India Corporation Limited, contesting the orders to seal the Sahara Shahar property, a 170-acre township located in Lucknow's Gomtinagar.

Justices Sangeeta Chandra and Amitabh Rai of the Lucknow bench heard the writ petition submitted by Sahara India Corporation Limited. The court has determined that the matter requires careful consideration, thus directing all involved parties to exchange pleadings.

Sahara India Corporation Limited has strongly opposed the Lucknow Municipal Corporation's actions of taking possession of the land and sealing all six gates of Sahara Shahar. The corporation argued that no inventory of the properties and valuable items inside Sahara Shahar was prepared during the sealing. They further contended that the actions were taken hastily, without providing a proper hearing or issuing a notice to vacate the premises.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation defended its actions by stating that Sahara India Corporation Limited had violated the terms and conditions of the lease deed granted in 1994. The corporation claimed that notices were issued in 2020 and again in 2025, and the sealing was implemented after providing adequate opportunities for a hearing.

In addition to seeking replies from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and the Uttar Pradesh government, the Allahabad High Court has also mandated proper care for any cattle found within the sealed premises of Sahara Shahar. The court directed that any cattle remaining inside the premises be taken to 'Kanha Upvan' and properly cared for.
