Patna, October 13, 2025 – Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of former Bihar Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, is set to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections from the Mahua constituency as a Jan Shakti Dal (JJD) candidate. This announcement marks a significant turn in Bihar's political landscape, especially with the elections drawing near.

Tej Pratap Yadav's decision to contest from Mahua comes after he floated his own political party, the Jan Shakti Dal, on September 26, 2025. The party's symbol is a blackboard, and its poster features prominent Indian leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Karpoori Thakur. The party emphasizes "social justice, social rights, and total change".

Yadav had previously announced his intention to contest the Bihar Assembly elections from the Mahua seat in Vaishali district. He made his political debut in the 2015 assembly polls and has served two terms as an MLA with brief stints in the state cabinet. Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) is an Indian political party founded by Tej Pratap Yadav on September 26, 2025.

In a related development, JJD has released its first list of 21 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections. Tej Pratap Yadav’s decision to contest from Mahua himself is a key highlight of this announcement. Sanjay Yadav has been nominated by the party from Madhepura.

The Mahua constituency is presently represented by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Raushan. Tej Pratap had previously served as a legislator from the same constituency. His return to Mahua as a JJD candidate sets the stage for a compelling contest.

Recent reports indicate tensions within the RJD family. Tej Pratap Yadav unfollowed his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, on social media platform X. He now follows only five accounts, including his parents Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, his sister Raj Lakshmi Yadav, his political party, and actor Riteish Deshmukh. In May, Tej Pratap was reportedly expelled from the RJD by his father.

Prior to launching his own party, Tej Pratap Yadav announced an alliance between his organization, Team Tej Pratap Yadav, and five smaller Bihar-based political parties, including Vanchit Vikaas Insaan Party, Bhojpuriya Jan Morcha, Pragatisheel Janata Party, Wajib Adhikar Party, and Sanyukt Kisan Vikas Party.

Bihar is gearing up for a two-phase election, with the first phase scheduled for November 6 and the second phase on November 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14. The key contenders in this election are the NDA, led by the BJP and JD(U), and the INDIA bloc, led by Tejashwi Yadav.

The NDA has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement, with the BJP and JD(U) contesting 101 seats each. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will field candidates in 29 seats, while the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest six seats each. The Janata Dal (United) has also finalized its list of candidates.
