Singer Chinmayi Sripada has strongly condemned the online harassment of a child contestant, Ishit Bhatt, on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 17. The young boy from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, faced intense trolling after a video clip circulated showing him interacting with host Amitabh Bachchan in what some perceived as a rude manner.
The incident occurred during an episode of KBC 17 where Ishit, described as a 10-year-old in some reports, confidently told Amitabh Bachchan that he knew the rules and didn't need an explanation. He also interrupted Bachchan while answering questions. This behavior sparked mixed reactions online, with many users criticizing his tone as disrespectful towards a senior citizen and a respected actor. Some online commentators went as far as to label him "the most hated kid" on the internet.
Chinmayi Sripada, known for her vocal stance against online bullying, swiftly came to Ishit's defense. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she called out the adults engaging in the online attacks, highlighting what she saw as hypocrisy. "An adult putting a tweet saying most hated kid," she wrote. "Adults here on Twitter have been one of the most lousy, foul mouthed, abusive lot; none of these voices said a thing when kids died due to a cough syrup". She further added, "But yeah pick on a kid. Says a LOT about the ecosystem. This entire lot is picking on one over excited kid – what a horrible bunch of bullies these have raised themselves to be".
Sripada's comments ignited a debate about online behavior, particularly towards children. Many people echoed her sentiment, emphasizing that Ishit is just a child and doesn't deserve public humiliation for what may have been an instance of youthful exuberance. Some have urged others not to target him.
Adding another layer to the situation, Amitabh Bachchan himself posted a cryptic message on X shortly after the trolling began. His post read, "Kuch kehne ko nahi, bas stabdh (Nothing to say, just stunned)," leading some fans to speculate that it was a reaction to the online backlash against Ishit.
Ishit eventually lost after incorrectly answering the fifth question. While some viewers criticized his over-enthusiasm, others felt that the trolling was excessive.
