Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is poised to become a major hub for artificial intelligence (AI) as Adani Enterprises, through its joint venture AdaniConneX, partners with Google to develop India's largest AI data center campus. This landmark project, slated for development over five years from 2026 to 2030, represents an investment of approximately $15 billion and aims to establish gigawatt-scale data center operations powered by renewable energy. The initiative will be supported by a robust subsea cable network.
The Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam will feature purpose-built AI data center infrastructure, significantly increasing India's computing capacity and driving a generational shift in its AI capabilities. The project will be developed in close collaboration with ecosystem partners, including AdaniConneX and Airtel. Airtel will construct a dedicated data center and Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Visakhapatnam and establish a high-capacity fiber network to ensure low-latency connectivity throughout India.
In addition to enhancing India's digital infrastructure, the project emphasizes sustainability through co-investment in new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and innovative energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. These initiatives will not only support the data center's operations but also enhance the resilience and capacity of India's electricity grid.
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, expressed pride in partnering with Google on this historic project, calling it "more than just an investment in infrastructure" but "an investment in the soul of a rising nation". He further stated that Visakhapatnam is set to become a global technology destination. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian noted that the AI hub is part of a global network of AI centers and will provide the critical foundation for businesses, researchers, and creators to build and scale with AI.
The development of the AI hub and connectivity gateway is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs in technology, construction, and clean energy, driving digital inclusivity and economic growth in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and India as a whole. The integrated data center and technology business park will also house a skill development center. The facility will house the compute power required for deep learning, neural network training, and large-scale AI model inference, creating an ecosystem that accelerates AI-driven solutions for critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, logistics, and finance.
