Senne Lammens of Man Utd: Courtois' support for handling high-pressure Liverpool challenge.

Thibaut Courtois has publicly supported Manchester United's new goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, to perform well in the upcoming match against Liverpool. Lammens, who joined Manchester United from Royal Antwerp in a deadline day move in September 2025 for a reported fee of £18.1 million, is expected to face a tough test at Anfield.

Courtois, the Real Madrid goalkeeper, believes Lammens possesses the qualities to handle the pressure. "The first game was a flavour of what United will get," Courtois said, referring to Lammens' debut against Sunderland where he kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory. He further added, "He's a tall guy, he is not afraid to come on crosses and he's a kid with personality".

Lammens made his debut for Manchester United on October 4, 2025, achieving the team's first clean sheet of the season against Sunderland. However, the game against Liverpool is expected to be a far greater challenge, as Liverpool seeks to recover from recent defeats.

Courtois, who knows the challenges of playing at Anfield, having lost on his last visit there with Real Madrid 12 months ago, offered words of encouragement and a touch of humor. "It's a hard stadium. Maybe I should tell him (Lammens) to clap the home fans when he arrives at the Kop," Courtois said. He also mentioned his own upcoming return to Anfield in November for a Champions League match, acknowledging the difficulty of playing there and Liverpool's need to bounce back.

Lammens, 23, is considered a potential long-term replacement for Courtois in the Belgian national team. Strengths attributed to Lammens include a strong mentality, calmness under pressure, and goalkeeping abilities demonstrated by his impressive number of saves in the Jupiler Pro League. He is also noted for his comfort with using both feet and looking for a footballing solution. Areas for improvement include accuracy and gaining experience in certain situations.

Manchester United's goalkeeper situation has been closely watched, particularly after unconvincing performances from André Onana. Lammens' arrival has added competition to the goalkeeping department, with the club seemingly choosing him over other options.

Lammens has praised the club's £50 million upgrade to their Carrington training complex, stating that the players "have everything here to succeed" and have "no excuses" for not preparing properly for games. He acknowledged the step up from his previous club, Antwerp, and the positive impact of the upgraded facilities. Lammens started his senior career at Club Brugge, later moving to Royal Antwerp before his recent transfer to Manchester United. He has represented Belgium at youth levels but is yet to make his senior international debut.
