Ex-Premier League Star Faces Fine After XL Bully Dog Attack Incident and Subsequent Legal Action.

Former Premier League footballer Said Benrahma, currently playing for Neom SC in Saudi Arabia, has been fined £12,000 after pleading guilty to two charges of owning "dangerously out of control dogs". The charges relate to an incident that occurred in July 2023, involving an XL bully and an American bulldog owned by the 30-year-old Algerian winger.

The incident took place near Benrahma's former home in East London, where the dogs attacked a golden retriever and its owner, Luke Rehbin. Rehbin sustained grazes to his arms and legs while trying to restrain the dogs, and his golden retriever required veterinary attention.

Benrahma admitted in court that the dogs escaped through a side gate that had been left open by one of his employees. He appeared at Willesden Magistrates' Court via video link from Saudi Arabia on Thursday, October 16, 2025, where District Judge Matt Jabbitt presided over the case. Judge Jabbitt stated that the incident must have been "very distressing" for Rehbin.

Benrahma was fined £5,000 for each of the two charges related to the attacks. In addition to the fine, he was ordered to pay £2,500 in compensation to Mr. Rehbin, as well as £495 to cover kennel costs.

The XL Bully breed has been outlawed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 since December 2023.

Benrahma's career in England began in 2018 when he joined Brentford from Nice. He later moved to West Ham, where he made 155 appearances and scored 24 goals, also contributing to the team's Europa Conference League victory. Benrahma left West Ham in 2023 and now plays for Neom SC. During his time in East London, Benrahma regularly posted pictures of his dogs, named Ghost and.
