Harry Kane has revealed England's five-man leadership group under manager Thomas Tuchel, while also addressing Jude Bellingham's visible frustration after being substituted in a recent match.
Kane confirmed that Jude Bellingham, Marc Guehi, Bukayo Saka, and Declan Rice have joined him in forming the leadership core. Speaking ahead of England's final World Cup 2026 qualifier against Albania, Kane highlighted the importance of shared responsibility within the squad. He emphasized that these players have stepped up to lead by example, both on and off the pitch.
Tuchel's appointment in October of this year has brought about changes in the team's leadership structure. With England already securing their place at the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel is focused on solidifying the team's foundation and identifying key players he can rely on. The inclusion of Saka and Rice in the leadership group signifies their growing importance within the team, while Bellingham's status as a Champions League and La Liga winner with Real Madrid makes him a natural fit for a leadership role. All five players were key figures in Euro 2024.
Kane believes his own good form enhances his ability to lead, allowing him to be more vocal and expressive in the changing room and on the field. He acknowledged the contributions of former leaders like Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire, while also embracing the emergence of new leaders within the squad.
Meanwhile, Tuchel addressed Jude Bellingham's reaction to being substituted during England's 2-0 win against Albania. Bellingham, who was making his first start since June, visibly showed his displeasure when he was replaced by Morgan Rogers in the 84th minute.
Tuchel stated that Bellingham "has to accept the decision". He emphasized the importance of respecting the decision and supporting teammates. Tuchel also said he would review Bellingham's reaction, noting that he saw that the player was not happy.
This isn't the first time Tuchel and Bellingham have had a minor disagreement. Tuchel previously apologized for revealing that Bellingham's mother found some of his on-pitch behavior "repulsive". He also raised eyebrows when he left Bellingham out of the October internationals.
Despite Bellingham's obvious talent, reports suggest that some within the England camp view him as self-absorbed. Tuchel previously stated that Bellingham would have to fight for his place in the team, as Rogers had performed well in his absence.
Tuchel's England wrapped up their World Cup qualifying campaign with a perfect record, winning all eight Group K matches. The victory over Albania was secured by two late goals from Harry Kane. Despite the win, Tuchel stressed the importance of maintaining standards and commitment to each other. He made it clear that decisions would not be changed simply because a player expresses their displeasure.
