Global icon Priyanka Chopra is basking in the admiration of her husband, Nick Jonas, after he publicly lauded her appearance at the title launch event for her upcoming film, "Varanasi". The singer and actor took to social media, sharing a series of pictures of Priyanka, expressing his awe at her traditional attire.
Priyanka attended the "GlobeTrotter" event in Hyderabad, where director SS Rajamouli officially unveiled the title and a teaser of his new film, "Varanasi", which stars Mahesh Babu in the lead role of Rudhra. For the event, Priyanka donned an elegant white lehenga-saree designed by Anamika Khanna, adorned with ivory and gold crystals, sequins, and antique gold metallic embroidery. She accessorized with a statement necklace, maang tikka, bracelets, and a waist belt, completing her traditional Indian look.
Nick Jonas shared several images of Priyanka from the event on his Instagram stories. In one post, he captioned a photo of her in the white saree with "Just wow. Breathtaking (sic)". In another story, highlighting her traditional hairstyle and the intricate details of her outfit, he wrote, "My Desi Girl (sic)". The "desi girl" comment is a nod to Priyanka's iconic song "Desi Girl" from the 2008 film "Dostana".
Priyanka responded to Nick's affectionate gesture by resharing his post with crying tears of joy and a red heart emoticon. Nick also extended his best wishes to the entire team of "Varanasi", sharing Mahesh Babu's first-look poster from the film and writing, "Congrats to the whole team. This film is sure to be incredible".
The actress also shared a short teaser clip of "Varanasi" on her Instagram, hinting that it's "just a glimpse, yet so much more". The teaser features Mahesh Babu's character holding a trishul covered in blood while riding a bull. In the film, Priyanka Chopra will play Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will portray Kumbha. The movie is slated for release during Sankranti 2027.
Priyanka's character poster was released the previous week, showcasing her in an action-oriented role, dressed in a saree and brandishing a gun. SS Rajamouli introduced Priyanka's character, writing, "The woman who redefined Indian cinema on the global stage. Welcome back, Desi Girl! Can't wait for the world to witness your myriad shades of MANDAKINI".
The upcoming movie marks Priyanka's return to the Indian film industry after a six-year hiatus. Her appearance at the "GlobeTrotter" event and the subsequent praise from Nick Jonas have generated significant buzz around both Priyanka and the film "Varanasi".
