Johannesburg, South Africa – In a move set to redefine technological collaboration across continents, India, Canada, and Australia have officially launched the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership. The announcement was made on Saturday, November 22, 2025, during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, marking a significant step towards bolstering cooperation in critical and emerging technologies.
The partnership was revealed following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Modi highlighted the initiative's potential to deepen collaboration among democratic partners spanning three continents and oceans, emphasizing its focus on emerging technologies, supply chain diversification, clean energy solutions, and the widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to a joint statement by the three governments, the ACITI Partnership will leverage each country's unique strengths in technology and industry, while simultaneously supporting shared objectives for a secure and sustainable future. The core areas of focus will include green energy innovation and building resilient supply chains, especially in critical minerals.
The partnership aims to advance shared goals toward achieving net-zero emissions, promote diversification of global supply chains, and foster a secure, sustainable, and resilient technological ecosystem. Furthermore, the collaboration will explore the development and mass adoption of AI technologies to improve the lives of citizens in all three nations.
The strategic alliance also signifies Canada's efforts to recalibrate its relationship with India, particularly after recent strains.
To ensure the ACITI Partnership progresses efficiently, officials from India, Australia, and Canada are scheduled to convene in the first quarter of 2026 to discuss and implement the initiative's key objectives.
The launch of the ACITI Partnership aligns with India's broader strategy of fostering global technology partnerships and strengthening supply chain security through multilateral frameworks, particularly within the G20 platform. This trilateral collaboration is poised to stimulate innovation, drive economic growth, and enhance technological capabilities across the three nations, setting a new precedent for international cooperation in the 21st century.
