PM Modi advocates digital cooperation alliance & climate change fund at IBSA meet during G20 Summit.

Johannesburg, South Africa – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed the establishment of an 'IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance' and a fund dedicated to climate-resilient agriculture during the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) leaders' meeting held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

The IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance aims to foster collaboration among the three nations in sharing digital public infrastructure, health platforms, cybersecurity frameworks, and technology initiatives led by women. Modi emphasized the importance of technology in ensuring human-centric development. Examples of shareable infrastructure include India's UPI and CoWIN platforms.

During the meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Modi highlighted that IBSA represents a crucial link connecting three continents, major democratic nations, and significant economies. He urged IBSA to advocate for the reform of global governance institutions, particularly the UN Security Council, emphasizing that it is an "imperative" rather than an option. Modi also stressed the need for unified standards in combating terrorism and encouraged close collaboration among nations in this effort.

In addition to the IBSA proposals, at the G20 Summit, PM Modi presented six new initiatives aimed at global development. These include establishing a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, an Africa Skills Multiplier program, a Global Healthcare Response Team, an initiative to counter the drug-terror nexus, an Open Satellite Data Partnership, and a Critical Minerals Circularity initiative.

Modi addressed the summit, emphasizing India's commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth, rooted in the principle of "Integral Humanism". He called for a re-evaluation of global development parameters to prioritize inclusive and sustainable growth.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of collective action on the climate agenda to bolster global food security, referencing the Deccan Principles on Food Security adopted during India's G20 Presidency. He welcomed the continuation of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group and urged G20 members to collaborate with the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) to mobilize resources.

Recognizing climate change as a major threat to agriculture and global food security, Modi highlighted India's efforts, including its food security and nutrition program, health insurance scheme, and crop insurance coverage. He also proposed making satellite data from G20 space agencies accessible to developing countries for applications in agriculture, fisheries, and disaster management.

Furthermore, Modi announced a trilateral technology and innovation partnership with Australia and Canada (ACITI Partnership) to deepen collaboration in emerging technologies, diversify supply chains, promote clean energy, and encourage the mass adoption of AI.

On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi engaged in bilateral meetings with various world leaders, including President Emmanuel Macron of France, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore. He also met with the President of Angola and Chair of the African Union, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia.
