Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remarked on Sunday, November 23, 2025, that Sindh may one day "return to India," emphasizing that "borders can change". Speaking at an event, Singh highlighted the civilizational connections between India and the Sindh region, which became part of Pakistan following the Partition of 1947. He noted that many Sindhis, particularly those from older generations such as L.K. Advani, have never fully accepted the separation.
Singh referenced Advani's writings, pointing out the enduring emotional and spiritual connection between Indians and many Sindhis with the Indus River. He quoted Advani, saying that Sindhi Hindus of his generation still haven't accepted the separation of Sindh. Singh further emphasized the reverence for the Indus River across communities, stating that Hindus throughout India consider the Indus sacred. He added that many Muslims in Sindh also believe the river's waters are as sacred as the Aab-e-Zamzam of Mecca, also quoting Advani.
"Civilisationally, Sindh will always remain a part of India," Singh stated. "And as far as land is concerned, borders can change. Who knows, tomorrow Sindh may return to India again". He added that Sindhis who hold the Indus River sacred "will always be our own".
The Sindh region, located near the Indus River, became part of Pakistan after the 1947 Partition, which led to a large migration of Sindhi people to India. Singh acknowledged the deep sense of separation felt by Sindhi Hindus, especially those from Advani's generation.
Singh also referred to India's external matters during an interaction with the Indian community in Morocco on September 22, expressing confidence that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would rejoin India without any aggressive action. He claimed that locals in PoK were demanding freedom from "occupiers". "PoK will be ours on its own," he said, adding that demands for freedom were already being voiced in PoK. He also recalled expert opinions during India's Operation Sindoor against terror infrastructure, suggesting that India should have advanced into PoK to reclaim territory rightfully belonging to the country.
Rajnath Singh also highlighted the Citizenship Amendment Act, meant to protect persecuted minorities.
