UP Train Tragedy: Ticket Checker Faces Charges After Navy Officer's Wife Dies in Alleged Shove.

A train ticket examiner (TTE) has been formally charged in connection to the death of Arti Yadav, the wife of an Indian Navy officer, after she was found dead on railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh on November 26. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have booked the TTE for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Arti Yadav, 30, was found dead between the Samhon and Bharthana stations. According to the FIR filed by her father, Arti mistakenly boarded the Patna-Anand Vihar Terminal Special Fare Special at Kanpur Central while en route to Delhi for a medical consultation at the Army Hospital. She was originally scheduled to take the Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special, but it was delayed by ten hours.

Eyewitnesses in the S-11 coach of the Patna-Anand Vihar Terminal Special have stated that the TTE, identified as Santosh Kumar, confronted Arti about her ticket. Witnesses reported that the TTE threw her luggage off the train and then pushed her off as well.

Ajay Yadav, Arti's husband, who is posted in Mumbai, stated that Arti had returned to her parents' home in Kanpur just three days before her death and was planning to visit the Army hospital in Delhi for a consultation. He was in Chennai when the incident occurred. Arti's father, Bhagwan Singh, received the initial call regarding her death.

While the GRP has not yet arrested Santosh Kumar, they are investigating the matter and recording statements from fellow passengers. According to Circle Officer Etawah GRP, Udai Pratap Singh, the initial assessment suggests that Arti jumped off the train. However, Arti's family has refuted this claim, alleging it is an attempt to protect the TTE and questioning why the train was not stopped.

Authorities have registered a murder case against the TTE and launched a detailed investigation. Arti’s family alleges that the TTE first threw her purse and belongings off the train before pushing her. When family members arrived at the scene, they found Arti's purse four kilometers away from her body, and her mobile phone's last location was also at a different spot. The family insists that the separation of belongings suggests a struggle and deliberate foul play.

Some reports indicate that at least five co-passengers have defended the TTE in written statements to the Railways, claiming that Arti jumped on her own after being asked to move to the general compartment because she had a ticket for another train.
