Expelled Trinamool Leader Humayun Kabir Announces Formation of New Political Party Launching Tomorrow.

Kolkata, December 21, 2025 – Humayun Kabir, the suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, is set to launch his own political party tomorrow, December 22. This move follows his suspension from the TMC after controversial statements made earlier this month. Kabir, a former TMC MLA representing the Bharatpur constituency, has been a vocal critic of the party's district leadership.

The announcement of the new party will be made at a rally in Baharampur, where Kabir expects to gather a crowd of around 50,000 people. He stated that the new party will focus on the issues of the common man and provide an alternative to the existing political agendas in West Bengal. Kabir will be the chairman of the party, and further details about the party's structure and objectives will be revealed at the launch event.

Kabir has a long and varied political career. Before joining TMC, he was a Congress MLA from Rejinagar from 2011 to 2012. In 2015, he was expelled from the TMC for alleged anti-party activities. He then contested the 2016 Assembly elections as an independent candidate but was unsuccessful. In 2018, Kabir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested the 2019 general election from Murshidabad, but lost to the TMC candidate. After his period of expulsion ended, he rejoined the Trinamool Congress and won the Bharatpur seat.

Recently, Kabir has been critical of the TMC, particularly its district leadership, which led to warnings from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. His suspension came after he reportedly proposed the construction of a Babri Masjid in Bengal.

Kabir's new political outfit will not close its doors to alliances with the Congress, Left, and even the Indian Secular Front (ISF). He has also expressed his intention to form an electoral alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Kabir claims to have already discussed the issue with Owaisi and has been invited to Hyderabad for further talks.

Kabir clarified that his criticism is directed solely at the district leadership and that he holds no animosity towards Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Despite this, his new party plans to contest in approximately 50 constituencies across Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, and parts of Nadia. This indicates his ambition to become a key player in the North Bengal political landscape, particularly in minority-dominated areas.

Humayun Kabir, born on January 3, 1963, has had a controversial political journey, marked by shifts between different parties. His latest venture into forming a new political party adds another chapter to his political career and could potentially reshape the political dynamics of West Bengal. The launch of his party tomorrow will be closely watched to see the extent of his support and the impact he might have on the upcoming elections.
