Shafali Verma and Spinners Shine as India Women Secure Seven-Wicket Victory Over Sri Lanka in 2nd T20I

Visakhapatnam, India – India Women secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka Women in the 2nd T20I, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Shafali Verma's explosive, unbeaten 69 off 34 balls led the charge, supported by a disciplined bowling performance from India's spin attack.

Sri Lanka, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, struggled to build momentum against India's tight bowling. They ultimately posted a modest 128 for 9 in their 20 overs. The Indian spin trio of Sneh Rana, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Shree Charani played a crucial role in restricting the visitors.

India's chase began with an early setback as vice-captain Smriti Mandhana fell for 14. However, Shafali Verma, brimming with confidence after a strong showing in the World Cup final, took control of the innings. Verma's aggressive approach immediately put the Sri Lankan bowlers under pressure. She remained unbeaten on 69, smashing 11 fours and one six, guiding India to victory with 49 balls to spare.

Left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera faced the brunt of Verma's assault, with Verma repeatedly hitting her over extra cover. Verma's footwork against the spinners was exceptional, whether she was stepping out to loft the ball or playing off the back foot to punch or pull.

Jemimah Rodrigues, the newly appointed Delhi Capitals captain, provided valuable support with a quickfire 26 off 15 balls. Together, she and Verma added 58 runs in just 4.3 overs, further accelerating India's chase. By the time Rodrigues was dismissed, the match was all but decided. Verma reached her half-century in just 27 balls and quickly completed the chase.

Earlier in the match, Sneh Rana replaced Deepti Sharma, who was ruled out due to fever. Rana made the most of the opportunity, showcasing her value by dismissing Chamari Athapaththu and keeping the Sri Lankan batters in check. Rana finished with figures of 1/11 in her four overs. Shree Charani and Vaishnavi Sharma also picked up 2 wickets each.

This victory marks India's second consecutive successful chase within 15 overs, highlighting the team's confidence and strong form. The win gives India a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
