Assam Man Jailed: Social Media Post Justifies Bangladesh Lynching, Sparking Outrage and Legal Action.

Rangia, Assam: A man has been arrested in Assam's Kamrup district for allegedly posting on social media in support of the lynching of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh. The arrest was made on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, following a complaint filed by the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal and the International Hindu Parishad Bajrang Dal.

According to police reports, an FIR was registered at the Rangia police station, and a preliminary investigation led to the arrest. The police have not released the name of the arrested individual.

The incident that triggered the social media post was the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker, in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Das was accused of blasphemy and was brutally killed by a mob. Reports indicate that he was first attacked outside the factory, then hanged from a tree, and his body was later set on fire near the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway.

The Interim Government of Bangladesh strongly condemned the lynching, asserting that such violence has no place in the country and vowed that the perpetrators would face justice. As of December 22, 2025, twelve people have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the lynching.

Initial reports suggested the attack on Das was related to a social media post that allegedly offended religious sentiments. However, Md Samsuzzaman, Company Commander of RAB-14 in Mymensingh, stated that investigators found no evidence that Das had posted anything offensive online. He added that local residents and factory workers also denied witnessing or hearing anything that could be considered blasphemous. Samsuzzaman noted that Das was forcibly removed from the factory to prevent further escalation of tensions.

The arrest in Assam highlights the reach and impact of social media in spreading and reacting to news events, even across international borders. It also underscores the sensitivity of religious issues and the potential for violence and unrest, prompting law enforcement to take swift action against those who appear to incite or support such acts.
