Vijayawada, India – The 87th Senior National Badminton Championships witnessed dominant performances from top seed Unnati Hooda and World Junior Championships silver medalist Tanvi Sharma on Wednesday. Both players secured convincing wins to advance further in the competition.
Unnati Hooda, after receiving a bye in the first round, showcased her prowess by defeating wildcard entrant Akanksha Matte with a score of 21-8, 21-18. Hooda's commanding performance demonstrated why she was the top seed in the women's singles event.
Tanvi Sharma also started strong, securing a decisive 21-10, 21-14 victory over Shaina Manimuthu, an Asian U-15 girls singles gold medalist. Sharma's win underscored her potential and built upon her silver medal achievement at the World Junior Championships.
In other matches, Aakarshi Kashyap defeated Asian U-17 championships silver medalist Lakshya Rajesh 21-7, 21-9. Ashmita Chaliha also advanced, overcoming Kavya Marvaniya 21-7, 21-11. However, 16th seed Purva Barve faced an early exit, losing to M Meghana Reddy 21-19, 17-21, 18-21.
In the men's singles, 11th seed Rounak Chauhan defeated Ranveer Singh 21-9, 21-13, and 12th seed D. S. Saneeth beat Ankit Mondal 21-7, 21-11. Sanskar Saraswat, seeded 16th and champion of the Guwahati Masters Super 100, also had a successful start, winning against Shikhar Rallan with a score of 21-11, 21-13.
