A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) lawyer died in a highway crash on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in the Ramban district. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Sheikh Adil Nabi, sustained critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Banihal, where he succumbed to his injuries. The accident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, and the news was reported on Friday, December 26, 2025.
According to reports, the accident took place near Banihal when a speeding Mahindra Scorpio hit Sheikh Adil Nabi's car from behind. A video of the incident went viral on social media, purportedly showing the advocate's car being struck by the speeding vehicle. The impact caused Nabi's car to spin uncontrollably and veer into the service lane.
Sheikh Adil Nabi had recently been appointed as a prosecuting officer with the CBI in Chandigarh. He had cleared his Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and joined the CBI as a public prosecutor about two months prior to the accident. His untimely death has been met with widespread grief within the legal community and his hometown.
Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Gupta stated that the police have arrested Mohammad Shafi, the driver of the Mahindra Scorpio involved in the collision. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Visuals shared online showed the advocate's car being hit from behind by a speeding vehicle near Banihal. The Scorpio continued to drive after the accident, veering around other vehicles on the road in a cloud of dust. The smaller white car with Nabi came to a shaky halt close to the road divider after the hit. The accident took place while the two vehicles were near the railway crossing at Banihal.
Another road accident in North Delhi's Narela area claimed the lives of two young men and left a third critically injured. In a separate incident from Jharkhand, a policeman died after being run over by an unidentified vehicle in the Palamu district.
