A Telangana Man's Labor of Love: An 80-Year-Old Builds and Maintains His Own Grave.

In a remarkable display of acceptance and preparation, Nakka Indraiah, an 80-year-old man from Lakshmipuram village in the Jagtial district of Telangana, has constructed his own tomb. This former builder spent ₹12 lakh to create his final resting place, not out of morbidity, but as a conscious embrace of life's inevitable conclusion.

Indraiah, who has two children, completed the tomb two years ago. He visits the site daily, tending to it with care and finding solace in the act of preparation. Unlike many who avoid graveyards, Indraiah treats the location as a retreat. He cleans the area, polishes the marble, waters the surrounding trees, and spends time in quiet contemplation before returning home.

The tomb itself is a well-constructed marble structure, situated next to his late wife's grave, symbolizing a desire for eternal companionship. This elaborate construction stands in stark contrast to a simple burial plot, reflecting Indraiah's unique perspective on death and remembrance.

Speaking about his decision, Indraiah expressed contentment rather than fear. A builder in his younger days, he considers the tomb his final project. "I built four or five houses, a school spread over 20 acres, and a church in this village. Now I have built my own tomb. It gives me great happiness," he stated. He views death not with sorrow, but as an unavoidable reality. Indraiah believes that acknowledging death while still healthy has liberated him from the associated anxieties.

His actions have made him a local talking point, with residents of Lakshmipuram and nearby villages discussing his unusual choice. Indraiah's perspective is rooted in the belief that nothing truly belongs to anyone until the very end. His proactive approach to his mortality challenges conventional attitudes and sparks conversations about life, death, and acceptance.
