The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that India will tour Bangladesh in September 2026 for a white-ball series, comprising three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to confirm the tour.
According to the BCB, the ODI series is scheduled to be held on September 1, 3, and 6, followed by the T20Is on September 9, 12, and 13. The Indian team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28. Shahriar Nafees, the BCB cricket operations in-charge, stated that the series had been rescheduled.
This announcement follows the postponement of India's scheduled tour of Bangladesh in August 2025, which was deferred due to scheduling issues. At that time, both the BCB and BCCI mutually agreed to reschedule the series to September 2026, citing international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience for both teams.
The BCB has expressed its eagerness to host India for the series in September 2026. The confirmed itinerary ensures a season full of international cricket in Bangladesh, providing supporters across the country the opportunity to watch top-level cricket at home. Details regarding the match venues will be announced later.
The tour is part of Bangladesh's home schedule for 2026, which includes bilateral engagements against Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, and the West Indies across all three formats. Bangladesh's home season will commence in March, after the men's T20 World Cup, with Pakistan touring for a three-match ODI series. New Zealand will tour Bangladesh in April-May for a full white-ball assignment, followed by Australia in June for a similar tour. The home season will conclude with a two-Test series against the West Indies in October-November.
It is uncertain whether the BCCI will agree to the tour, considering the current political situation in Bangladesh, where there is no stable government in place. The general elections in Bangladesh are expected to be held by June 2026. It remains to be seen whether the new government will work to improve relations with India.
The BCCI had previously expressed concerns regarding the security situation in Bangladesh. There were reports that the BCCI wanted the tour to proceed only after the general elections and the establishment of a stable government.
