A shocking incident of a triple murder has come to light in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly killed his father, sister, and 14-year-old niece following a long-standing land dispute. The accused, identified as Mukesh Patel, reportedly used an axe to commit the heinous crime and subsequently dumped the bodies into a well to conceal his actions.
The case unraveled after Mukesh's brother, Mukund Patel, filed a missing person report at the Mauaima police station on Sunday, stating that his father, Ram Singh (55), sister Sadhana (30 or 21), and niece Aastha (14) had disappeared. Mukund also expressed suspicion that his elder brother, Mukesh, might be involved in their disappearance.
Prompted by the missing person report, the police, along with a Special Operations Group (SOG) team, detained Mukesh Patel for questioning on Monday. During the interrogation, Mukesh confessed to the murders, revealing that a property dispute with his father, Ram Singh, had driven him to commit the crime. According to authorities, the conflict stemmed from Ram Singh's decision to transfer four bighas of land to his younger son, Mukund. Mukesh, allegedly seeking a share of the property, demanded 10 biswa of land from his father, which was refused.
Fueled by anger and resentment, Mukesh allegedly went to his father's house on the night of January 2 with the intention of killing him. According to police reports, he initially attempted to strangle Ram Singh. However, when Sadhana and Aastha intervened, Mukesh allegedly attacked them with an axe he found at the scene, killing all three.
After committing the murders, Mukesh reportedly took advantage of the dense fog that night to dispose of the bodies. He allegedly threw the victims into a nearby well and covered it with straw in an attempt to hide the crime.
Following Mukesh's confession, the police recovered the three bodies from the well, along with the axe believed to have been used in the murders. Authorities also seized a country-made pistol and two cartridges from Mukesh's possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Gunawat confirmed the arrest and stated that an FIR has been registered at Mauaima police station. Further investigations are underway, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Ganga Nagar area, highlighting the tragic consequences of unresolved land disputes within families.
