Luxembourg is a "very important" partner for India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Tuesday, emphasizing the potential for deeper cooperation in fintech, space, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). During his six-day visit to France and Luxembourg, Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel to explore expanding collaboration across key sectors such as financial services, investments, technology, and innovation.
Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Luc Frieden and expressed gratitude for Luxembourg's support for stronger India-EU ties. In a meeting in Luxembourg City, Jaishankar highlighted that India and Luxembourg can collaborate more productively in areas such as fintech, space, the digital domain and AI. He pointed out that these fields, along with the existing robust trade relationship, present significant opportunities for enhanced partnership.
Jaishankar acknowledged the 78 years of relationship between India and Luxembourg, underscoring Luxembourg's importance as a partner both in its own right and within the European Union, especially during this crucial time in the evolution of India-EU ties. He also thanked Bettel for being a strong advocate of deeper ties between India and the European Union.
The External Affairs Minister noted that the influence Luxembourg has in shaping the broader relationship and the support it extends is of great value to India. The discussions also covered growing cooperation in financial services, investments, and technology.
