Tata Punch Gets Turbo Power and CNG AMT, a Segment-First Innovation Arrives in India

Tata Motors has launched the facelifted 2026 Tata Punch with a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). This update marks the first significant change to the ICE-powered Punch since its original debut in 2021. The refreshed model introduces a turbo-petrol engine and a segment-first CNG AMT option, alongside styling and feature enhancements. Bookings for the new Tata Punch are now open.

The new Punch boasts two powertrain options. The first is a 1.2-litre turbocharged iTurbo Revotron petrol engine, delivering a segment-best power-to-weight ratio. This engine is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. The second is a twin-cylinder iCNG system, making the Punch the first SUV in India to offer a CNG variant paired with an AMT gearbox. A manual transmission is also available for the CNG variant. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, borrowed from the Nexon, produces 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque. Tata Motors claims the turbo-petrol engine achieves a 0-100kph sprint time of 11.1 seconds. The CNG variant produces the same power and torque as the outgoing model when running on petrol.

The Punch facelift is available across six trims: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Accomplished, and Accomplished+ S. Prices range from Rs 5.59 lakh for the base Smart petrol manual variant to Rs 10.54 lakh for the top Accomplished+ S variant (ex-showroom, New Delhi). A single-pane sunroof is available as an optional extra on the Pure+ and Adventure trims for an additional Rs 35,000.

The exterior design of the 2026 Punch facelift is inspired by the Punch EV, featuring a minimalist and clean aesthetic. Noteworthy exterior features include modern LED lighting elements, connected tail lights, a rear wing, and a rear wiper. The interior receives a dual-tone dashboard with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. Select AMT variants also include paddle shifters.

Since its debut in October 2021, the Tata Punch has achieved significant milestones, pioneering the subcompact SUV segment in India. It became the first front-wheel-drive SUV to scale Sandakphu and was the country's largest-selling four-wheeler in 2024. The Punch has consistently ranked among the top 10 cars sold in India since 2022 and has been chosen by approximately 7,00,000 customers over four years.

The Tata Punch facelift includes features such as six airbags, paddle shifters, a 360-degree camera, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, extended thigh support, and a height-adjustable driver seat. The vehicle also offers 366 liters of boot space. The Tata Punch facelift has achieved a five-star Bharat NCAP rating.

With the addition of the turbo-petrol engine and CNG AMT option, Tata Motors aims to widen the appeal of the Punch across urban and value-conscious buyers. The company is betting on the Punch to sustain volumes amid slowing growth in entry-level passenger vehicles.
