Kiefer Sutherland in hot water: Arrested for alleged ride-hail driver assault, police release details.

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Monday morning in Hollywood following an alleged assault on a ride-hail driver. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a call reporting an assault near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue at approximately 12:15 a.m..

According to a statement released by the LAPD, the investigation revealed that Sutherland, 59, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats. Sutherland was arrested at the scene on suspicion of making criminal threats.

The ride-hail driver did not sustain any injuries requiring medical treatment. Sutherland was booked into the LAPD jail and subsequently released on $50,000 bail. His court date is set for February 2nd. Hollywood Division detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

Sutherland is widely recognized for his role as Jack Bauer in the Fox drama "24" and as President Tom Kirkman in "Designated Survivor". His extensive filmography includes roles in popular movies such as "The Lost Boys," "Flatliners," and "A Few Good Men".

This is not Sutherland's first encounter with the law. He has a history of alcohol-related offenses, including drunk driving charges in 2004 and 2007. In 2007, he spent 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and violating his probation. There was also an assault charge in 2009 that was later dropped. Most recently, in 2020, Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood. In 2009, Sutherland was arrested and charged with assault for headbutting another man.
