In the ongoing discussion about who embodies the character of Angoori Bhabhi best, actress Rashami Desai has weighed in, praising both Shilpa Shinde and Shubhangi Atre for their contributions to the role. The character of Angoori Bhabhi became iconic in the television show "Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai!" and has been played by both actresses at different times.
Shilpa Shinde originally played Angoori Bhabhi and gained immense popularity for her portrayal. However, she quit the show in March 2016, citing "mental torture" by the makers and disagreements over an exclusivity contract. Following Shinde's departure, Shubhangi Atre stepped into the role and continued to entertain audiences for nearly a decade. In December 2025, Shilpa Shinde returned to the show for "Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai 2.0".
The return of Shinde has sparked comparisons between her and Atre, with some viewers favoring one over the other. Recently, Shinde stated that she sees no comparison between herself and Shubhangi, asserting that "Bhabiji was always Shilpa Shinde". She also suggested that Shubhangi had copied her style of acting. This led to mixed reactions, with some criticizing Shinde for her comments.
Rashami Desai, in an exclusive conversation with IANS, shared her perspective on the matter. She emphasized that both Shilpa and Shubhangi are talented actors who have dedicated themselves to the character. "See, being a senior actor, I did not think that she (Shilpa) would have liked to compare herself with Shubhangi Atre. If she is asked to compare, that itself is an insult to her as a senior actor," Desai told IANS.
Desai further added, "Shubhangi has worked really hard for that character. In fact, Shilpa has also worked really hard". She acknowledged Shinde's "bold personality" and recognized that her statement came from her own journey and homecoming to the show. Desai urged viewers to be welcoming of Shinde's return. She also defended Atre's contributions, stating, "Whatever phase Shubhangi has lived as Bhabhiji, that is also her hard work, you cannot compare".
Shubhangi Atre, meanwhile, has moved on from the role and is looking forward to new opportunities. She portrayed Angoori Bhabhi for nine years after Shilpa Shinde's exit in 2016. Atre felt it was time to grow beyond the character and explore new roles. She also mentioned that social media helped her connect with audiences as Shubhangi, and not just as Angoori.
Shilpa Shinde, in response to the backlash, clarified that her comments about Shubhangi Atre were meant as a compliment, not as a way to belittle her. She said that comedy is not easy and that Shubhangi took on the challenge of continuing the character for nine years, creating her own space. Shinde also expressed hope that Shubhangi would acknowledge her statement as a compliment.
