Prabhas's latest Telugu film, The Raja Saab, a horror-comedy directed by Maruthi, has seen a significant drop in box office collections after a strong opening. Released on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Sankranthi festival, the film initially garnered ₹9.15 crore from premiere screenings. Day 1 collections jumped to an estimated ₹53.75 crore, primarily driven by the Telugu version, with a notable contribution from the Hindi-dubbed version. However, as the days progressed, the film's performance tapered off.
By Day 5 (January 13, 2026), The Raja Saab earned approximately ₹4.85 crore across all languages in India, according to early estimates. This brings the total India net collection to around ₹119.45 crore. The film's performance over the weekend saw collections moderate, with Day 2 and Day 3 bringing in approximately ₹26 crore and ₹19.1 crore, respectively. A sharper decline was recorded as the film moved into its first working week, with Day 4 (Monday) collections falling to about ₹6.6 crore.
Despite the initial strong performance, The Raja Saab has not been well-received by critics and audiences alike. Reviews point to weak storytelling, a muddled screenplay, and an overlong runtime of three hours as major drawbacks. Some critics noted the film's potential was unrealized due to a sloppy and outdated approach. The visual effects and editing have also been criticized, with some scenes appearing heavily reliant on green screens and VFX.
While Prabhas's effort to portray a lighter, more playful character has been acknowledged, his performance has been described as inconsistent. The female characters, played by Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar, have been termed as underutilized, with minimal impact on the narrative. Sanjay Dutt and Zarina Wahab received praise for their roles, but their performances weren't enough to salvage the film.
The Raja Saab also stars Boman Irani in a brief role.
Despite the underwhelming box office performance and negative reviews, The Raja Saab has reportedly secured a significant ₹160 crore for its OTT rights across all languages.
The film's Day 5 collections are significantly lower than the opening day numbers of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, but The Raja Saab still outperformed it on its opening day. However, Dhurandhar has already grossed ₹800 crore in India and ₹1300 crore globally.
Prabhas has multiple upcoming projects, including Fauji, Spirit, Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, and Salaar Part 2. He is currently filming for Fauji, a war-themed action drama set in 1940s British colonial India.
