Tom Hiddleston, the acclaimed British actor, recently revealed that his introduction to Indian cinema was through Shah Rukh Khan's "Devdas". The revelation came during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, where Hiddleston spoke fondly about his early exposure to Indian films.
"I've loved Indian cinema for a long time," Hiddleston stated, recalling his experience of watching "Devdas" in a local cinema. He described the experience as "extraordinary," emphasizing that he had "never seen anything like that before". The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film, released in 2002, stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Madhuri Dixit in leading roles. The film is known for its grand sets, intense emotional narrative, and memorable music.
Hiddleston's appreciation for Shah Rukh Khan extends beyond "Devdas." In a 2023 interview with Bollywood Hungama, he suggested that Khan would be an excellent choice to play a variant of Loki, Hiddleston's iconic Marvel character. He has also associated both India and Bollywood with Shah Rukh Khan in the past, further demonstrating his admiration for the actor.
Hiddleston isn't the only Hollywood star to express admiration for Bollywood. With stars openly acknowledging their appreciation, the global popularity of Indian cinema continues to rise.
Shah Rukh Khan is slated to appear in the film "King," directed by Siddharth Anand, alongside his daughter Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, and Akshay Oberoi. The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.
When asked about working with Indian filmmakers, Hiddleston responded positively to the suggestion of collaborating with S.S. Rajamouli, the director of the epic action film "RRR," calling him "excellent". Hiddleston also shared that he recently worked with an Indian production house and a largely Indian crew for a project filmed in Nepal, describing it as a positive experience.
