In a recent statement, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat asserted that Hindus will be held accountable for whatever happens to Bharat. He emphasized that the character of the nation is defined by its people and that Hindu society, with its inclusive nature and preservation of diversity over centuries, is the essence of Bharat.
Bhagwat made these remarks while underscoring the importance of unity and responsibility within Hindu society. He stated that a strong and virtuous Bharat, backed by power and intellect, can significantly contribute to the world.
Bhagwat has frequently spoken about the concept of "Hindu" identity in relation to Bharat. In November 2025, he said that anyone who loves Bharat is a Hindu, regardless of their personal modes of worship. He clarified that "Hindu" is not merely a religious term but a civilizational identity rooted in thousands of years of cultural continuity, adding that Bharat and Hindu are synonymous. During the same month, Bhagwat stated in Bengaluru that Hindus are responsible for Bharat, which he described as a Hindu Rashtra. He also noted that Muslims and Christians are descendants of the same ancestors, whether they know it or have forgotten.
Bhagwat has also framed Hindu society as the global custodian of dharma, asserting that without Hindus, the world would cease to exist. He highlighted India's endurance compared to ancient civilizations and stressed the importance of economic self-reliance and strength for nation-building.
In January 2026, Bhagwat addressed the Sanatan Culture Festival in Vrindavan, emphasizing unity among Hindus and Sanatan society. He stated his belief that India will remain a Hindu, Dharma nation and will emerge as a global leader in the next 20-30 years, bringing peace and happiness worldwide. He has also spoken about the RSS working to organize Hindu society through "man-making".
