Following the Mahayuti alliance's win in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the Maharashtra cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved several key infrastructure projects and extended the toll exemption for electric vehicles (EVs) on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shivdi–Nhava Sheva Atal Setu. The decisions aim to provide relief to commuters, promote eco-friendly transportation, and推进 urban development projects.
One of the most significant decisions was the extension of the toll exemption for electric vehicles on the Atal Setu by another year. This move is expected to reduce costs for EV users and further encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the state. The toll exemption applies to electric four-wheelers (category M1), including both transport and non-transport vehicles, as well as electric buses (categories M3 and M4), whether operated by State Transport Undertakings (STU) or non-STU entities. The state government's focus on promoting eco-friendly transportation is evident in this decision to incentivize the use of electric vehicles through reduced travel costs on major infrastructure projects like the Atal Setu.
In addition to the EV toll relief, the cabinet also approved the revised cost and the state's share of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-2). The MUTP-2 is a crucial initiative designed to strengthen suburban rail services and improve urban mobility in Mumbai. This project is expected to significantly enhance the transportation infrastructure in the city and provide much-needed relief to daily commuters.
To address housing needs within the police force, the cabinet cleared the Mumbai Police Housing Township project. This ambitious project aims to construct 45,000 homes for police personnel across Mumbai and its suburbs. This initiative will provide better living conditions for police officers and their families, contributing to their well-being and morale.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved the waiver of premium for a plot in Navi Mumbai, which has been allotted to the Tirupati Devasthanam for the construction of the Padmavati Devi temple. This decision is expected to facilitate the construction of the temple and promote religious tourism in the region.
The Maharashtra cabinet also approved the restructuring of 1,901 posts in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics and approved its renaming as the Commissionerate of Economics and Statistics. Additionally, the cabinet approved revised staffing patterns for district planning committees, divisional commissioner offices, and special development programmes. These administrative decisions are aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.
These decisions, made a day after the Mahayuti alliance's victory in the BMC polls, demonstrate the government's commitment to infrastructure development, экологически friendly initiatives, and improving the quality of life for its citizens. By extending the EV toll relief and clearing key infrastructure projects, the Maharashtra government is taking significant steps towards building a more sustainable and prosperous future for the state.
