The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Vinod Tawde, its national general secretary, as the party in-charge for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. The announcement was made on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh. Union Minister and Bengaluru North MP Shobha Karandlaje will serve as the co-in-charge for the polls. The Kerala Assembly elections are expected to be held in April.
The appointments were among the first organizational decisions made by the new BJP president, Nitin Nabin. Tawde has also been given the responsibility of overseeing the election of a new mayor for Chandigarh. In addition to Tawde's appointment, the BJP has named Ram Madhav as the poll in-charge for the upcoming Bengaluru civic elections. Satish Poonia, former State president of Rajasthan, and Maharashtra MLA Sanjay Upadhyaya will serve as co-incharges for the Bengaluru elections.
With only a few months remaining until the 2026 assembly elections in key states such as Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the union territory of Puducherry, political parties are intensifying their campaign efforts. The BJP is aiming to strengthen its mass connectivity and improve its prospects in the upcoming elections. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has already solicited public input to help strategize the party's electoral manifesto.
Elections to the five city corporations under the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be held after May 25 using ballot papers, according to Karnataka State Election Commissioner GS Sangreshi.
