Panama Firm's Duty-Free Outlet Bid at Noida Airport Faces Scrutiny in South Carolina Court.

Even before the Noida International Airport at Jewar begins operations, a legal battle has emerged in the Supreme Court (SC) involving duty-free outlets. Panama-headquartered UETA Inc. and Singapore-based Heinemann are the multinational corporations (MNCs) involved in the dispute.

Noida International Airport has partnered with BWC Forwarders Pvt Ltd and Heinemann Asia Pacific for its duty-free retail. The airport is expected to offer a variety of premium brands, including confectioneries, premium liquors, chocolates, cosmetics, tobacco, fragrances, fashion accessories, spices, regional handicrafts, and ayurvedic products. Heinemann currently manages duty-free areas in airports across several countries, including Germany, Austria, Hungary, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and China.

BWC Forwarders will oversee the retail spaces in both the domestic and international sections of the Noida airport. Companies interested in operating a shop at the airport will contract with BWC Forwarders, who will then share profits with the airport based on their concession agreement.

The airport conducted its first calibration flight on April 18. The operation of the airport is slated to commence by the end of 2024.
