Trinity Rodman, a standout player for the United States women's national team (USWNT), has officially re-signed with the Washington Spirit, committing to the team for another three years. The announcement was made during a press conference in Los Angeles with team owner Michele Kang on Thursday. This decision secures Rodman, a cornerstone for the Spirit, in Washington, D.C., through the 2028 season.
Rodman's re-signing is considered one of the most significant contracts in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and women's soccer globally. While specific financial details remain undisclosed, sources indicate Rodman's annual salary will exceed $1 million. The contract reflects Rodman's value and the Spirit's commitment to building a championship-contending team.
Amid growing interest from European clubs, including Women's Super League teams like Chelsea and Arsenal, Rodman has chosen to remain in the NWSL. She acknowledged her past interest in playing overseas but ultimately decided that Washington, D.C., and the Spirit are where she wants to continue her career. "I've made the DMV my home and the Spirit my family, and I knew this was where I wanted to enter the next chapter of my career,” Rodman stated. She also expressed pride in the team's progress since her rookie season and excitement for the club's future.
Rodman was drafted by the Spirit as the second overall pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft. That same year, she was named NWSL Rookie of the Year and U.S. Soccer Young Player of the Year, also winning an NWSL championship. In the 2025 NWSL season, Rodman recorded five goals and two assists before a back injury cut her campaign short. At the international level, Rodman has 47 appearances for the USWNT, winning six major international trophies, including a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games where she tallied four goals and an assist.
General Manager Nathan Minion emphasized the importance of re-signing Rodman, stating, "Re-signing Trinity was always a top priority for this club... She is one of the best players in the world and a transformational presence for the Spirit on the field and for our fans". Minion added that Rodman is central to the team's championship ambitions and future.
The Spirit finished the 2025 NWSL season as runner-up. The team began preseason this week and will kick off the regular season on March 13 against Portland Thorns FC at Audi Field.
