In a dynamic showcase of automotive history and future potential, Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen and rising star Arvid Lindblad recently took part in a unique event celebrating Ford's 100 years of automotive evolution. The event, a blend of past, present, and future, highlighted Ford's legacy while also looking ahead to the brand's future in Formula 1 with Red Bull Powertrains-Ford in 2026.
The celebration wasn't a static museum display but rather a full-throttle demonstration of Ford's progress through the decades. Verstappen and Lindblad pushed a variety of vehicles to their limits, showcasing the evolution of motorsport and automotive technology.
The event included a drag race that highlighted the differences between early models like the Model T and modern supercars and EVs like the Ford Supertruck. Verstappen and Lindblad went head-to-head in acceleration challenges, with Verstappen piloting a 2017 Ford Fiesta WRC and the Supertruck, while Lindblad drove the Ford Mustang Boss 302 and the Ford RS200 rally car. As expected, the Boss 302 couldn't keep pace with the more modern WRC car, and Verstappen proved quick in the Supertruck.
Red Bull Racing is entering a partnership with Ford for its 2026 powertrains in Formula 1, creating Red Bull Powertrains-Ford, with Ford providing financial and technical support. In preparation for the start of the partnership, Red Bull brought Verstappen and Lindblad together with Ford to drive some of their most iconic cars from the past century.
Lindblad is joining the Racing Bulls team, and the team revealed their 2026 livery at an event that included Ford Racing and Oracle Red Bull Racing. The team will retain its all-white look, but with blue accents that reflect the partnership with Ford.
Many see Lindblad as a rising star in Formula 1. Lindblad told Lando Norris in 2021 that he would be racing against him in five years, a prediction that has now come true.
The event in Detroit featured a blue carpet and displays of Ford cars. The collaboration marks a new era for Ford, Formula 1, and the Red Bull teams. Ford's return to F1 involves a technical partnership where they will assist Red Bull with their engine development, bringing their experience in sports car and racing engine manufacturing to Formula 1.
