Mikel Arteta eases concerns about Kai Havertz injury, providing positive update for Arsenal fans.

Mikel Arteta has reassured Arsenal fans regarding the fitness of Kai Havertz, who has been carefully managed following a long-term knee injury. The German international, who hasn't started a match since August 17, 2025, against Manchester United, underwent surgery after that initial injury.

Recent reports suggested a setback in Havertz's recovery, with concerns arising about his long-term fitness. These reports indicated that his knee had flared up again, leading to careful workload management. In November, he reportedly suffered ligament damage to the same knee while close to returning to the matchday squad. Despite pictures and videos of Havertz training, sources indicated that his recovery battle was ongoing.

However, Arteta has offered a more optimistic outlook. He acknowledged that Havertz has been out for a significant period, nearly a year, for various reasons. He stated, "He's very close," and emphasized the need for a smart approach in managing Havertz's workload and minutes. Arteta added, "I am sure in the next two weeks he's going to play minutes. I cannot tell you when. The context will depend on when it is right to throw him in".

Arteta dismissed any notion that Havertz might be struggling to trust his body, highlighting the player's "unbelievable track record". He believes that going through such a period is something that can happen in a player's career, allowing them to learn more about their body and the game. Arteta expressed confidence in Havertz's hunger and assured fans that they would see a "really good version of Kai".

Havertz has made limited appearances since his initial injury, including brief cameos in the FA Cup against Portsmouth and the Carabao Cup against Chelsea. He was also on the bench for Arsenal's Champions League match against Inter Milan but did not play. The club is proceeding with caution to avoid any long-term issues, potentially requiring prolonged management of his game time.

Arsenal are still in contention for silverware in the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Arteta is keen to have Havertz available and performing well for the crucial stages of the season. He stressed the importance of managing Havertz's return carefully over the next six to eight weeks to ensure he is physically at his highest level for the big games ahead.

While Havertz has faced hamstring issues and the recent knee injury, Arteta remains confident in the player's ability to overcome these challenges. He reiterated that Havertz's experience and track record would help him through this period.

Arsenal are set to face Manchester United on Sunday, January 25. While it is unclear if Havertz will feature, Arteta's comments suggest that the club is optimistic about his progress and potential return to the pitch in the near future. Other players, Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori, have been spotted in training, but their availability for the match against Manchester United remains uncertain. Max Dowman is still out with an ankle injury. Bukayo Saka seems to have recovered from a minor issue.
