On the occasion of India's 77th Republic Day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended warm greetings to the people of India, reaffirming the strong and growing partnership between the two nations. In a statement released on Monday, Secretary Rubio congratulated India on commemorating the adoption of its Constitution, recognizing its enduring significance as the foundation of the world's largest democracy.
Secretary Rubio highlighted the "real results" of the U.S.-India relationship, emphasizing the collaboration on defense, energy, and critical minerals. He noted that the partnership between the United States and India continues to reach new heights and will be a defining relationship of the 21st century. He further stated that the enduring friendship between the two countries is the bedrock of their cooperation, propelling them forward as they realize the tremendous potential of their economic relationship.
The Secretary of State also lauded the role of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad), which includes the United States, India, Australia, and Japan, in advancing shared objectives for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. He conveyed his anticipation for continued collaboration between the two democracies to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Secretary Rubio stated, "On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of India as they celebrate their nation's Republic Day. As they commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India, we join them in recognizing its enduring significance as the foundation of the world's largest democracy".
Echoing Secretary Rubio's sentiments, the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs also celebrated the shared democratic ethos and future accomplishments of the two countries.
India celebrated its 77th Republic Day with a grand parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the festivities, with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, serving as Chief Guests. The parade showcased India's military prowess, cultural heritage, and advancements in various sectors. This year's theme was 'Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram' and 'Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat'.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended greetings to the nation, expressing that this festival of national importance instills new energy and enthusiasm.
The United States and India have a multifaceted relationship, with cooperation spanning various sectors, including defense, trade, space, and technology. The two countries also share common values, including democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed plans to visit India next year. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, signed into law, also reflects the importance the U.S. places on its relationship with India, particularly through the Quad. The Act highlights broadening America's engagement with India, including through the Quad to advance the shared objective of a free and open Indo-Pacific region and address the challenge posed by China.
