Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Assam for a two-day visit on January 30, 2026, with a focus on infrastructure development, cultural outreach, and political engagement. This visit marks Shah's second trip to Assam within a month, following his visit on December 29, 2025.

Shah's itinerary includes a series of significant events across the state. He will begin in Dibrugarh, where he will lay the foundation stone for the new Assam Legislative Assembly building and the Wildlife Research Institute. The new Assembly complex is envisioned as a modern legislative facility equipped with advanced amenities. The foundation stone for the Assam Legislative Assembly's second complex in Dibrugarh will be laid at 11 am on Friday. This project will include the Assembly building, an MLA hostel, an 800-capacity auditorium, and a 400-capacity barracks, and is estimated to cost ₹284 crore. The complex is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.

In addition to the Assembly building, Shah will also inaugurate Phase I of the Khanikar Stadium, a project aimed at boosting sports infrastructure in Upper Assam. The first phase of the modern multi-disciplinary sports complex in Dibrugarh includes an indoor stadium, swimming pool, football field, main gallery, tennis court, volleyball court, basketball court, and hostels, built at a cost of ₹238 crore. Furthermore, he will lay the foundation stone for the second phase of the sports complex, which will include additional public seating for 30,000 people, a central playground, an athletic track, and lifts, at a cost of ₹209 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Institute of Wildlife Health and Research at Dinjan, aimed at strengthening wildlife research, diagnostics and policy interventions.

Following the events in Dibrugarh, Shah will travel to Dhemaji district to participate in a cultural festival of the Mising community. Later, he will proceed to Guwahati to attend an organizational meeting with BJP workers at the party headquarters. During this meeting, he is expected to review preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections and discuss poll strategies with senior BJP leaders. The Assam Assembly elections, encompassing 126 constituencies, are anticipated to be held in March-April. After the meeting, Shah is scheduled to depart for West Bengal at 7 pm.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significance of Shah's visit, noting his keen interest in the state's political affairs and the upcoming Assembly elections. Sarma also mentioned that Shah would lay the foundation stone of a wildlife health center in Chabua, emphasizing Assam's commitment to animal welfare.
