Veteran Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is set to star in the Hindi remake of the National Award-winning Malayalam crime thriller Joseph. The Hindi version is titled Soorya.

The original Malayalam film, released in 2018, featured Joju George in the lead role and received critical acclaim, with George earning a special mention at the 2019 National Film Awards for his performance. Joseph revolves around a sharp-witted, retired cop who is drawn back into investigating a murder. The film was lauded for its gritty realism and investigative plot.

Deol, known for his action hero persona and iconic dialogues, will take on the lead role of the retired police officer. According to reports, the core storyline of Joseph will remain intact in the Hindi remake, but the setting will be shifted to Jaipur to resonate with Hindi-speaking audiences.

M. Padmakumar, who directed the original Malayalam version, is also helming the Hindi remake, ensuring a consistent vision and adherence to the source material.

Shooting for Soorya concluded in September 2025. Padmakumar shared a photo with Deol on Instagram after wrapping up the shoot.

Deol has several other projects in the pipeline. He was involved in promotions for Border 2 in January 2026. Additionally, another action thriller starring Deol, directed by Balaji, is scheduled to commence shooting in February 2026, with plans to wrap up by the summer. Deol was also seen in Gadar 2, a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.

Sunny Deol has had a successful film career spanning over four decades, with over 100 Hindi films. He has won two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards. His notable performances include Ghayal (1990) and Damini (1993).
