Cristian Romero criticizes Tottenham's squad depth, suggesting failings lie with the club's leadership.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has publicly criticized the club's squad depth, labeling it "disgraceful" in a statement that appears to be directed at the club's hierarchy. The Argentine defender's comments came after Spurs' recent 2-2 draw against Manchester City, a match in which Romero was substituted at halftime due to illness.

Romero's frustration seems to stem from the large number of absentees the team is currently facing. The situation is reminiscent of last season when, under then-manager Ange Postecoglou, the team battled a significant injury crisis. Despite Postecoglou leading the team to Europa League glory, they finished a disappointing 17th in the Premier League, ultimately costing him his job.

The current manager, Thomas Frank, is facing a similar predicament, struggling with a depleted squad due to numerous injuries. Since the beginning of the year, Tottenham has lost nine players to injury, further compounding the team's woes and frustrating fans. The team has only managed to win two of their last 15 Premier League games, raising concerns about a potential relegation battle.

Following the winter transfer deadline, Romero took to Instagram to express his feelings. While acknowledging the team's effort against Manchester City, he highlighted the fact that only 11 players were available for the match, describing the situation as "unbelievable but true and disgraceful". He also assured fans that the team would continue to work hard and take responsibility to improve their situation. Tottenham did sign Hearts teenager James Wilson on loan, but he is expected to join the Under-21 squad.

This isn't the first time Romero has seemingly criticized the club's management. Earlier in January, he made what was described as an "extremely damning statement," which was interpreted as a dig at the board's ambition in the transfer market. Romero's desire to play alongside world-class players and the club's perceived lack of ambition have seemingly fueled his discontent. The recent criticism adds to the growing pressure on the Tottenham hierarchy as they navigate a challenging season marked by injuries and disappointing results.
