Lens Condemns Racist Abuse Against Saint-Maximin After His Children Were Targeted in Mexico.

Lens, France – French club Lens has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at their new signing, Allan Saint-Maximin, after his children were targeted in Mexico. The abuse, which occurred during Saint-Maximin's time with Mexican side Club América, led to his departure from the team and a return to France, where he signed a six-month deal with Lens during the winter transfer window.

Saint-Maximin, 28, had previously posted on social media about his family being targeted with racist abuse. The former Newcastle United winger emphasized that while he could personally endure attacks, he would never tolerate his children being targeted. In an Instagram post, Saint-Maximin wrote, "The problem is not the color of your skin, it's the color of your thoughts... I'm being attacked, not a problem - I grew up, I learned to fight against attacks... but there's one thing I will never tolerate is my kids being picked on". He further stated that protecting his children was his priority and that he would "fight to make sure they are respected and loved, regardless of their background or color of their skin".

Club América coach Andre Jardine expressed his regret over the situation, stating, "It's regrettable that an act of racism occurred against his daughters, something that had already happened more than once. It was something he wouldn't tolerate, and we condemn it". He described Saint-Maximin as a "fantastic" player with "the ability to play in any league in the world".

The racist incidents prompted Saint-Maximin to cut his time in Mexico short. According to reports, tensions with head coach André Jardine also played a part in his decision to leave Club América. Saint-Maximin was not in the squad that defeated Necaxa 2-0, which led to the announcement of his departure.

Lens, currently near the top of Ligue 1, have been actively seeking to strengthen their squad. The club's swift condemnation of the abuse shows their support for Saint-Maximin and their stance against racism.

Saint-Maximin's return to French football marks a new chapter in his career after spells in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, Turkey with Fenerbahce and Mexico with Club America following his departure from St James' Park in 2023. He remains a popular figure with Newcastle United fans after playing for the club for four years.

The incident involving Saint-Maximin's children highlights the ongoing issue of racism in football and society. His strong stance against the abuse and the support from his new club, Lens, send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
