A tragic incident in the Bahamas has claimed the life of Gaurav Jaisingh, an Indian-origin college student from Massachusetts, just days before his graduation. The 22-year-old Bentley University student fell from a hotel balcony on Paradise Island on Sunday night.

According to initial reports from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. when Jaisingh was inside his hotel room with other roommates. He reportedly fell from an upper-level balcony and was later found unresponsive on a lower floor. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported him to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.

Jaisingh was in the Bahamas for Bentley University's annual senior class trip, a tradition where the graduating class is offered a five-day trip to the Bahamas between finals and commencement. He was scheduled to graduate later this week. Jaisingh was a finance major with a minor in computer information systems. He was also a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and the South Asian Students Association. He was set to begin his career as a consultant in New York City.

Bentley University has expressed its condolences to Jaisingh's family and friends. "We are profoundly sad to confirm that one of our students, Gaurav Jaisingh, passed away last night in a tragic accident during the annual senior class trip in the Bahamas," the university said in a statement. "We share our deepest condolences with Gaurav's family, friends and loved ones. While local authorities are investigating, it appears Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony," the statement continued. The university also stated that they are providing resources for those impacted by the tragedy and encourage anyone who needs support to reach out to the university's counseling center. The university plans to honor Gaurav at the undergraduate commencement ceremony.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jaisingh's death.
