Starting today, August 25, 2025, commuters using the Delhi Metro will experience a slight increase in fares as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) implements its first fare hike in eight years. The revised rates, affecting all lines, represent a minimal increase of ₹1 to ₹4, with a slightly higher increase of up to ₹5 on the Airport Express Line.
The DMRC has stated that this adjustment is necessary to address rising operational and maintenance costs. The last fare revision occurred in 2017, following the recommendations of the Fourth Fare Fixation Committee. The new fare structure aims to balance affordability for daily commuters with the need to maintain service quality, safety, and facilitate future network expansion.
Under the new fare structure, the minimum fare for a trip up to 2 kilometers is now ₹11, up from ₹10. The maximum fare, for distances greater than 32 kilometers, has increased from ₹60 to ₹64. Intermediate fare slabs have also been adjusted accordingly. For instance, a journey between 12 and 21 kilometers will now cost ₹43 instead of ₹40, and a trip between 21 and 32 kilometers will now be priced at ₹54, compared to the previous ₹50.
Even with the fare increase, DMRC continues to offer a 10% discount to passengers using smart cards. An additional 10% discount is available during off-peak hours, which are before 8 am, between 12 noon and 5 pm, and after 9 pm.
The Delhi Metro, often called the capital's lifeline, is the largest metro network in India, spanning over 394 km with 289 stations across 12 corridors, including the Noida Metro Aqua Line and the Rapid Metro Gurugram. Before the pandemic, it transported over 6 million passengers daily. DMRC had maintained stable fares for eight years, depending on non-fare revenues like advertisements and property development to offset rising costs.

Fares on Sundays and national holidays are also revised, with a maximum fare of ₹54 for distances over 32 kilometers. For travel up to 5 kilometers, the fare has been capped at ₹11 during Sundays and holidays.
