A cloudburst in the Rajgarh area of the Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in at least three fatalities, with several houses damaged and rescue operations underway. The incident occurred early Saturday morning in the Drubla Natna area of Rajgarh, around 12:30 AM.
Initial reports indicate that two houses and a school building were hit by the cloudburst. Tragically, three people have lost their lives, and authorities are searching for two individuals who remain missing.
Immediately following the disaster, rescue teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), were dispatched to the affected area to conduct rescue operations. The district administration has also mobilized teams to provide essential relief to those impacted by the cloudburst.
The Jammu region has been experiencing a period of heavy rains, leading to significant destruction. From August 14 to 26, at least 138 lives were lost in rain-related incidents across Kishtwar, Kathua, and Reasi districts.
The Meteorological (Met) Department had issued warnings of potential moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Jammu division. These predictions extend from Friday afternoon through late night on September 2nd. Specifically, the Met Office cautioned about the possibility of moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers in several districts of the Jammu division from early Saturday morning through late night on September 1st, and again on the early morning of September 2nd. Residents were advised to remain alert.
The current weather forecast for Jammu Division indicates continued heavy thunderstorms during the day on Saturday, August 30th, with light rain expected at night. There is a 75% chance of rain during the day and a 35% chance at night. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, August 31st, with light rain forecasted throughout the day and night.
