A shocking incident in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, has come to light where a woman was abducted by her family members while she was practicing Garba. The incident, captured in a video that has gone viral on social media, highlights issues surrounding personal freedom, family disputes, and the safety of women in public spaces.
The abduction took place at Bhavsar Dharamshala in Khanpura, Mandsaur, around 10 p.m. on Saturday night. According to police reports, the woman was participating in Navratri celebrations when a group of men and women forcibly dragged her away. Eyewitnesses reported that the woman was practicing Garba with other women when the group arrived and seized her. The act instilled fear among the attendees, causing people to flee the scene.
Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Meena confirmed that the abduction was orchestrated by the woman's relatives due to anger over her relationship with a young man named Yash, with whom she had been living in Khanpura for the past four months. The woman had previously been married but left her husband because of repeated physical abuse and had filed for divorce. Her family and in-laws were reportedly unhappy with her decision to leave her husband and her current relationship.
The Kotwali police acted swiftly, imposing a district-wide blockade. Within two hours, they managed to trace and apprehend all seven accused and safely recover the woman. The vehicle used in the abduction and a toy pistol were also seized. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramchandra, Manisha a.k.a Bunty, Kamlesh a.k.a. Ghota, Fakirachand, Shambhulal, Shyamabai, all residents of Chachawada Sathiya under Garoth Police Station, and Dinesh from Bhunki Hatunia. They have been charged with kidnapping, the Arms Act, and other relevant sections.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, especially given its occurrence during a cultural celebration. Some have voiced that this is more than a family matter and raises concerns about public safety. The police are currently investigating the matter, with Superintendent Meena stating that they are taking the case seriously due to its domestic nature and are conducting thorough interrogations.
