Satna Tragedy: Sanitation Worker Dies, Two Critically Injured Due to Hazardous Working Conditions.

A tragic incident in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, has resulted in the death of one sanitation worker and left two others in critical condition. The workers were cleaning an underground sewer line when they inhaled toxic gases, leading to the devastating outcome.

The incident occurred near Triveni Palace in the Kripalpur area, within the Kolgawan police station limits. According to reports, the three workers lost consciousness inside the sewer. Local residents responded swiftly, calling for an ambulance with oxygen facilities and using ropes to pull the trio out of the sewer.

One of the workers, identified as Amit Kumar, 35, a resident of Utaili, was declared dead at the scene. The other two workers were rushed to the hospital and are currently in critical condition.

Initial reports suggest that the workers were employed by a sewer cleaning company and were cleaning the sewer line chamber following complaints of blockage in the Kripalpur Harijan Basti area. It has been alleged that the workers entered the chamber without any safety equipment, such as oxygen masks or safety belts. As a result, they were immediately affected by the poisonous gases inside the sewer line.

The Kolgawan police have registered a case and begun an investigation. A complaint application has been filed against the sewer company responsible for the cleaning work. Authorities have stated that a further probe is underway. Municipal officials, including Mayor Yogesh Tamrakar, visited the site, while Subdivisional Magistrate Rahul Siladia visited the hospital to check on the condition of the hospitalized workers.

This is not an isolated incident. Just three days prior, on September 22, two employees of PC Snehil Company lost consciousness due to toxic gas while performing manual cleaning near Kristukula School. SDM Rahul Siladia transported them to the hospital in his vehicle, saving their lives.

The incident has raised serious questions about safety standards and the provision of adequate equipment for sanitation workers. Local residents have alleged negligence on the part of the municipal corporation administration and the contractor. Concerns have been raised regarding the lack of safety gear provided to the workers, who were reportedly cleaning the sewer without oxygen masks or safety belts. The accident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety protocols and better protection for sanitation workers who risk their lives to maintain essential services.
