He emphasized the importance of men leading the family and women upholding its honor by following established rituals.
Yograj Singh stated, "I am the head of my family – my way, my rules, my regulations". He further shared that he has advised his daughter against any actions that could bring dishonor to the family. "People might find me wrong, but no one crosses the line with me in my family," he asserted. He went on to say, "I told my daughter that if my turban gets stained, then you see… I told my daughter and wife, you are the honour of my family, my turban shouldn't get stained because of you, or else I will give my life. What's wrong in that?".
These statements have been met with mixed reactions. Some view them as reflective of deeply ingrained patriarchal attitudes, while others defend them as an expression of personal beliefs. The Punjab State Commission for Women has taken note of Yograj Singh's remarks and is reportedly looking into the matter.
In the same interview, Yograj Singh also shared his views on the roles of men and women in society, saying "men and women have different jobs". He stated that women should not be given power because they will "destroy everything around them". He cited former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as an example, claiming she "destroyed" the country during her tenure. "Give them love, respect, and honour, but never give them power," he said. He also said that women shouldn't be made the head of households as they 'destroy it'.
These comments have drawn criticism for being misogynistic and disrespectful towards women. Some online users have demanded action against Yograj Singh, while others have argued that he is entitled to his own opinion.
