Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran celebrated his birthday on October 16, 2025, by unveiling the first glimpse of his upcoming movie Khalifa. Titled "The Bloodline," the promo offers a sneak peek into the intense action thriller directed by Vysakh. The film marks the reunion of Prithviraj and Vysakh after their successful collaboration in Pokkiri Raja (2010).
The first look introduces Prithviraj as Aamir Ali, a character described as "untouchable," set against the backdrop of gold smuggling. The promo showcases action-packed sequences and intriguing music, promising a gripping tale of a man who writes his vengeance in gold. Prithviraj shared the promo on his Instagram account, stating, "A revenge forged by a lineage that spans generations! Next Onam.. Aamir Ali will write his vengeance in gold! #KHALIFA - The Ruler".
Fans have expressed excitement about the film, praising the stylish visuals and mass appeal. The glimpse features a blood-soaked fight sequence shot in London, hinting at the film's international scope and high-octane action. Some viewers have drawn comparisons to action blockbusters like John Wick.
Khalifa delves into a multi-generational conflict, with Prithviraj portraying a relentless character. The film's narrative involves gold smuggling networks across the Middle East, Nepal, London, and Kerala.
Directed by Vysakh and written by Jinu V Abraham, Khalifa began filming in London in August 2025. Jomon T. John is the cinematographer, and Jakes Bejoy is composing the music. Khalifa is produced by Jiinu Abraham Innovation. The film is slated for release during Onam 2026.
In addition to Khalifa, the first single from Prithviraj's long-awaited project, Vilaayath Budha, was also released on his birthday. Composed by Jakes Bejoy, the track is expected to be a romantic number featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside Priyamvada Krishnan. Directed by Jayan Nambiar, Vilaayath Budha is an adaptation of G.R. Indugopan's novel of the same name. Prithviraj's immediate upcoming release is Vilayath Buddha, which is expected to hit theaters in November.
Prithviraj is also involved in a secretive collaboration with S.S. Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu. Furthermore, he will be seen in Sarzameen, co-starring Kajol and Ibrahim Ali Khan, releasing on JioHotstar on July 25. He also has I, Nobody directed by Nissam Basheer in his line up.
