India is poised to experience significant growth in its aviation sector, with projections indicating the country will receive approximately one new aircraft per week over the next decade, according to GE Aerospace CEO. This surge in aircraft deliveries underscores India's growing importance in the global aerospace market.
GE Aerospace has a long-standing relationship with India, powering Air India's carriers for more than 40 years. This partnership is set to deepen with recent deals, including a substantial order of GE engines to power new Air India aircraft. These engines will support Air India's expansion plans and contribute to its goal of becoming a world-class airline.
The aviation industry is currently facing supply chain constraints, and demand outstripping supply. To mitigate these issues, GE Aerospace is using its FLIGHT DECK model, which promotes collaboration with supplier partners to alleviate bottlenecks. This initiative has reportedly reduced LEAP engine test cycle times and increased supplier material input.
In addition to commercial aviation, GE Aerospace is also strengthening its ties with the Indian defense sector. A recent deal involves the supply of 113 GE 404 engines for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 1A program. GE Aerospace is also investing in its manufacturing capabilities in India. An investment of over Rs 240 crore has been allocated to expand and upgrade the company's manufacturing facility in Pune. India's aviation market is the third-largest in the world, with significant potential for further expansion.
