The Kraken's victory was hard-earned, with Josh Mahura ultimately scoring the game-winner in overtime. Wright's goal was part of a larger offensive effort that also saw Jani Nyman and Vince Dunn finding the back of the net. Goaltender Joey Daccord made 26 saves to secure the win for Seattle.
For the Maple Leafs, John Tavares scored twice, reaching 500 career points with the franchise. Morgan Rielly also scored for Toronto, while Anthony Stolarz stopped 24 shots in the losing effort. Selected by the Kraken as the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, Wright has been in the spotlight since he was 15 years old. He was granted exceptional-player status by Hockey Canada, allowing him to enter the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) a year early. The Kingston Frontenacs then selected him as the No. 1 pick in the 2019 OHL draft.
Wright's early career highlights include being named captain of the Kingston Frontenacs at just under 18 years old, making him the youngest captain in team history. In the 2021-22 season, he scored 94 points (32 goals, 62 assists) in 63 games and was named the top draft prospect in the CHL. Wright also showcased his talent on the international stage, captaining Canada to victory at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, where he tied for the team lead with 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in five games.
