In the wake of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives, Qatar has extended its support to India. The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, conveyed his condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a phone call on Tuesday.
Expressing solidarity with the people of India, the Emir of Qatar voiced his nation's full support for India's fight against terrorism. He affirmed Qatar's backing for all actions taken to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice.
The attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, was the deadliest on civilians in the region since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The incident has sparked international outrage and further strained relations between India and Pakistan.
India has blamed Pakistan for enabling cross-border terrorism, a charge Islamabad denies. In response to the attack, India has reportedly suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and sealed the Attari land border crossing.
The international community has largely condemned the Pahalgam attack. Over 60 countries and international organizations have expressed their revulsion at the targeting of civilians. Several nations, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, were among the first to issue strong condemnations. Leaders from the United States, France, and the United Kingdom have also conveyed their support and sympathies to India.
Amid rising security concerns, the Ministry of Home Affairs is scheduled to conduct a nationwide civil defence mock drill across 244 districts on May 7. The drill aims to enhance emergency preparedness and public safety mechanisms. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is set to review the preparations with chief secretaries and civil defence heads from across the country.
